On Sunday April 9, over 50 BGIS Team Members, suppliers, family and friends completed the 1,776 steps up the CN Tower in support of the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF).

Climbing Canada’s largest landmark has become an annual tradition for BGIS Team Members, but this year’s successful climb also included recognition for being the top fundraising corporate team as well as the corporate team with the most participants.

This year, CEO Gord Hicks challenged BGIS President, Canada, Mike Greidanus and BGIS Team Members to raise $20,000 and the team did not disappoint! The combined efforts of the BGIS Ultimate Team, RP1 Ontario and the Bell account team (BBone) worked together to raise a total of $22,397.34 for habitat sustainability.

“We could not have accomplished our fundraising goal without the inspiration & fundraising of our climbers in combination with the contributions of several of our valued suppliers,” said Mike Greidanus. “A special thank you to Flynn Group, KONE Corporation, Onyx Fire protection Services Inc., GDI Integrated Facility Services, Landscape Effects, Plan Group Inc., J+A Cleaning Solutions Ltd., Bee Clean Building Maintenance, Spyros and U-Pak Disposals Ltd.”

Following the challenging climb, all supporters and participants got together to celebrate with a group lunch. Together, Team Members boasted their personal climb times, and recovered from their successful journey up 144 flights of stairs, while cheering on prizewinners for the day’s events. A special congratulations goes to Mathias Castelhano for the fastest climb of 15:33 minutes and Energy Engineer, Mary-Lynne Marino, who raised $1,024 – the most funds raised among Team Members.

"The highlight for me was climbing with my daughter Cassie,” said Mike. “The CN tower climb is so great because our extended BGIS team all comes together with family, friends, customers & our services partners at such an iconic location. It was a fantastic event and I am proud of the contributions of our team to WWF."

WWF CEO David Miller stopped by the lunch to share his appreciation for BGIS’ exemplary efforts and remarked on the organization’s unwavering integrity in living sustainably.

“BGIS actually lives its values, and not many companies can say that,” said Miller. “Today, BGIS demonstrated that in the way you organized this team.”

BGIS’ annual commitment to the event demonstrates one of the company's core values, Living Sustainability, and its promise to "promote the efficient use of resources to benefit all people and the world."

For over 25 years, the efforts of climbers for the CN Tower Climb for Nature have contributed to some amazing conservation successes. With the support of corporate teams like BGIS’, WWF-Canada can continue to build working examples that demonstrate that victories for nature are victories for people.

Congratulations to all of our Team Members who participated in the campaign and thank you to all of our supporters who made this event a success!
